FAQs

Do I need to have art experience to join?

No art experience is required to join our classes. Claudia’s Art Therapy classes are designed for beginners as well as experienced artists. Every lesson focuses on step-by-step techniques that make learning accessible, enjoyable, and stress-free. Whether you’re just starting your artistic journey or looking to improve your skills, you’ll find the guidance and support you need to grow.

What types of art techniques will I learn?

Claudia’s Art Therapy offers a wide variety of art techniques for all skill levels. Depending on the class, you may learn drawing, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, or mixed-media methods. Claudia’s signature teaching style—developed over 20 years of experience—is designed to be inclusive and accessible, making it easy for both beginners and experienced artists to grow their skills.

Can art therapy help with stress or anxiety?

Yes! Art therapy is a proven way to reduce stress and anxiety. The process of creating art can be calming, meditative, and therapeutic. It provides a healthy outlet to express emotions, process experiences, and relax your mind. You don’t need to be a skilled artist to benefit—art therapy focuses on the healing process, not the final product.

What materials do I need for a class?

Materials depend on the type of class and whether you’re attending in person or online.

  • In-person classes: A one-time $20 fee covers all materials.

  • Online classes: You’ll receive a simple materials list after registration.

Most classes start with basics such as paper and pencil. For painting, you’ll need acrylics or watercolors with the appropriate paper. Claudia keeps supplies affordable and accessible, so you don’t need to invest in expensive art kits to participate.

Do you offer online art classes?

Yes! Claudia offers live online art classes across most time zones in the U.S. and internationally. Virtual classes make it easy to learn from anywhere and are open to students of all ages and skill levels.

Can I book Claudia for a workshop or special event?

Absolutely! Claudia is available for workshops, corporate wellness events, museum programs, school activities, and community projects. Since her schedule fills quickly, it’s best to book in advance to reserve your date.

What’s the difference between art therapy and a regular art class?

The main difference is the focus:

  • Art therapy is about the process. Classes emphasize self-expression, stress relief, and emotional well-being through art. Claudia guides students in exploring their feelings creatively, with no pressure to create a “perfect” piece.

  • Traditional art classes focus on skill development—learning drawing, painting, and design techniques to improve your artistic ability.

Both can be enjoyable and rewarding, but art therapy is especially beneficial if you’re looking for relaxation through creativity.

Do I need to share my artwork with the group?

Sharing your artwork is always optional. Many students choose to keep their work private, especially when just starting out. Claudia respects your comfort level—you can even choose not to share with her directly. However, if you’re open to it, sharing your artwork allows Claudia to give supportive feedback and personalized tips to help you grow. Every environment is encouraging, positive, and judgment-free.

How long is each art class?

Most art classes are 1 hour long, but we also offer 30-minute sessions for students who prefer shorter lessons. Whether you’re learning online or in-person, we’re flexible and can adjust the class length to fit your schedule.

How soon will I see improvement in my art?

Every student improves at their own pace, but many notice progress as early as the first class. Beginners often see big changes within a few weeks of regular practice. Intermediate artists refine their techniques and style within a few months, while advanced artists notice more subtle but meaningful growth over time. With consistent practice, you’ll gain stronger skills, more confidence, and a personal style that shines through your work.

How many classes should I take?

It depends on your goals. A single 5-week course is perfect for beginners to build a foundation. Intermediate students benefit from 2–3 courses over 6–12 months to refine skills and style. Advanced artists may choose ongoing classes every few months to continue learning new techniques and growing creatively. Progress comes from both guided instruction and regular practice outside of class.

How many students are in an in-person art class?

In-person classes are capped at 20 students to ensure a quality learning experience. Smaller class sizes allow for more personal attention, feedback, and opportunities to ask questions. Because spots fill quickly, we recommend registering early to secure your place.
